The Liberty Style in Cave
Coming from Rome
to Fiuggi direction, you can admire many particular buildings among Cave
downtown area which contribute to make it very different from all neighbours
towns. Many buildings in Cave in fact have been realized
in “Liberty Style”, the typical style flourished around the first decades of
1900s. Its main features are the plenty use of floral elements in paintings, in
timber decorations and in all iron structures where you can even notice the absence
of the modern soldering technique:it is quite easy to establish their
originality just by observing their iron pieces united through hinges or pins.Liberty
Style buildings may have: coloured facades with tint or stuccoes patterns, a
monumental double staircase, a turret, a terrace and a big garden with some
characteristic plants such as palms, hortenses and bergenes.
Our itinery will
take in consideration just some marvellous Liberty Style residences located
along Pio XII street. On its left side (going to Palestrina direction), you can
admire a beautiful building with a pale yellow facade with a typical floral
frame, a pretty balcony with a wrought ironhandrail which proposes the same
decoration of the above mentioned floral frame and framing stuccoes windows.
Walking along the same street you will meet
other important Liberty Style “examples”: the one with the bright red façade
which has the monumental double staircase reaching the dwelling entrance with
above the typical balcony, another entirely realized in tophus bricks with
curious grotesque decorations. In the corner of G.Pasquazistreet there is
another beautiful building with arabesque decorations which align perfectly
with the curvy and gently lines typical of the Liberty Style. On the other side
of Pio XII street, you especially may focus on the two dwellings corresponding
to the 33 and 37 civics. The first one is characterized by a two-colour
decoration and the bottom of its façade is covered by simulated bricks; here
again you can admire the original turret, two lovely balconiesand a terrace
with a wrought iron handrail interspersed with geometric stuccoes. The same
handrail features the second one building.
Furthermore,
other important Liberty Style evidences are distributed in various districts
among Cave area such as, San Lorenzo and Morino neighborhoods or in Sessi and
Giorgioli streets.

La Certosa di Trisulti, adagiata nei boschi a 850mt di altezza, ha un qualcosa di affascinante. Sarà per l'imponente edificio praticamente disabitato (solo 6 i monaci presenti), sarà per la meravigliosa farmacia galenica con le volte affrescate e le ampolle e recipienti con le erbe e gli estratti ancora all'interno, sarà per il giardino meraviglioso con le siepi a formare un vero labirinto, sarà per la passata presenza di monaci di clausura che brulicavano in silenzio questo luogo mistico.
A poca distanza dall'entrata della Certosa, parte il sentiero in discesa che conduce al Santuario della Madonna delle Cese, un piccola costruzione situata sotto una grotta: anche questo è un luogo meravigliosamente suggestivo di pace totale.
Fumone è un bel borgo medievale in piena Ciociaria vicino ad Alatri in posizione più elevata rispetto ai paesi attorno e per questo motivo veniva utilizzato come avvistamento ed allarme tramite fumo alle campagne limitrofe; da qui il detto "quando Fumone fuma, tutta la campagna trema". Il castello è noto per la storia del piccolo erede ucciso dalle sorelle e poi mummificato dalla madre per averlo sempre accanto Nel castello vi è stato imprigionato anche Celestino V (quello del Gran Rifiuto) e la sua cella è parte del percorso.
Infine da segnalare il giardino pensile che venne costruito sul tetto al posto delle due torri che furono abbattute non appena divenne dimora privata. Il giardino è sul punto più alto di Fumone e da lì si gode di un bellissimo panorama che spazia su una vasta zona.

Santuario Madre delle Grazie della Mentorella
A pochi chilometri da Anita bed and breakfast potrete immergervi nella quiete di questo sublime santuario tanto caro a @Wojtila !
Il #Santuario Madre delle Grazie della #Mentorella è un tempio ubicato sulla roccia a strapiombo sulla sottostante valle del Giovenzano. La tradizione vuole che sia stato edificato nel IV sec. d.C. dall'imperatore Costantino. Costui, d' accordo con Papa Silvestro, lo fece erigere sulla sommità del monte Guadagnolo, dove, secondo la leggenda, avvenne la conversione di Placido (chiamato poi S. Eustachio).Fu meta del primo pellegrinaggio fuori le porte di Roma da parte di Papa Giovanni Paolo II che il 29 Ottobre 1978 vi si recò in incognito per lo stupore dei cittadini del luogo.
A partire dal Santuario è possibile seguire vari itinerari naturalistici: -Santuario della Mentorella da Ciciliano
-Sentiero dei Pellegrini: Ciciliano - Mentorella - Guadagnolo
-Sentiero Wojtila: Pisognano - Mentorella
-Sentiero A. Kircher.
Sopra un enorme roccia calcarea a 1218 metri sul livello del mare, sorge #Guadagnolo, centro abitato più alto del Lazio. La montagna quì si è caratterizzata da varirtà botaniche così uniche, da essere inserite nella carta regionale del Lazio, tra gli ecosistemi da salvaguardare e si innalza solitaria e maestosa verso il cielo, coronata da formidabili rupi alpestri. Questo panorama, tra i più pittoreschi d' Italia, costituisce anche lo scenario, cui si richiamano tutte le ipotesi sulle sue origini.
Il villaggio secondo una prima tesi, sarebbe infatti nato all'epoca delle incursioni barbariche, quando i Romani, fuggiaschi, si sarebbero stanziati nei pressi di un antichissimo fortilizio del quale restano solo i ruderi di una torre precedente il V secolo. Secondo altre tesi, invece, il nucleo originario sarebbe stato costruito dai contadini che lavoravano le terre di appartenenza dei monaci del santuario.

Pompei
A circa 2 ore di macchina da Anita bed and breakfast potrete raggiungere la suggestiva antica città di Pompei!
Un viaggio nel tempo di 2000 anni è possibile solamente a Pompei, la città fortificata scoperta per caso 1669 anni dopo l’eruzione del vicino vulcano Vesuvio, avvenuta il 24 agosto del 79 d.C. Questo tragico evento causò almeno 2000 vittime, intrappolate e incapaci di accettare il loro triste destino. Oggi Pompei, con i suoi 60 ettari di scavi all’aperto, rappresenta uno dei siti archeologici più grandi al mondo.
Curiosità dell’epoca è che secondo alcune lettere di Plinio il giovane, scrittore e senatore dell’epoca, l’esplosione non è stata imprevista: la terra tremò molto forte nel 63 d.C. ed un mese prima che il vulcano ricoprisse tutto con la sua cenere si erano iniziate a notare colonne di fumo con relativa difficoltà di respiro nell’area.
Durante la piacevole passeggiata nel passato, si può ammirare il Foro della città, perfettamente intatto dove si svolgeva la vita economica e politica del paese. Se siete appassionati di shopping, non potete perdere la Casa del Fauno, che era una sorta di moderno residence all'interno del quale c'era anche una specie di centro commerciale. La struttura, infatti, è composta da due ampie zone comunicanti, ognuna dotata di un ingresso indipendente, collegate da una serie di botteghe concesse in affitto ai negozianti. Di tradizione romana, sono bellissime da visitare le Terme Stabiane ed il bellissimo Anfiteatro. Da non perdere inoltre il bellissimo Tempio di Apollo, l'edificio é di rara bellezza e ammirandolo si può immaginare quale la fosse la vita intorno ad esso nei tempi antichi; esso mescola elementi italici e greci.
